Weekend 'Round the Web: Predator Fanfic, Imperial Metrics, and a Lumbass
What I've been reading and amusing myself with.
It was perhaps inevitable that somebody would want Predator: Badlands to be more of an erotic fanfic than it already is. I don’t agree with Celia Mattison’s critiques of the movie, but ever since my days curating a so-called nerd site, I have always felt bound and honored to elevate this sort of fanfic, fully aware that there’s a large silent majority out there who hunger for it.
Props also for the headline probably being a Jeffrey Wells reference.
Christian Lindke’s deep dive into the Metric and Imperial systems, and why he likes both, is pretty much the definition of what an article on a site called Geekerati should be. I’ve always found Metric to make more sense, but when you also grow up measuring a mile by “how far it is to walk to the shop,” it’s harder to process a kilometer.
My old publicity colleague turned filmmaker mogul Ava DuVernay is on Substack, and has compiled a bunch of her half-finished thoughts into a single thesis.
Via Decarceration, I found this nifty review of Bugonia that focuses on the feminist angle, which would necessarily be absent from the original due to the gender-swapping of the character. It’s a good read. Also, Decarceration lost his job, so help him out with a subscription if you can.
To close out my weekend reads, how about some funny videos. First, a small bit of silliness I put on TikTok - click the image below to see it.
And then the funniest thing I’ve seen all month, and maybe year: Beavis and Butt-head doing Dr. Seuss.
Happy remaining holiday weekend, all!
